Race recap: Colfax Half Marathon 2023

Half marathon 57 🥳

This was my first Colfax half marathon. I’ve completed the relay race, and had to go virtual another year, but this was my first official half marathon with them. It was really well organized, and I loved running through the Denver Zoo. (The animals were up and about, greeting the throngs of runners. It probably sounded more like a soft stampede, and maybe that was why they were all so lively in the morning.) There’s lots of great course support. I’ve now done the relay, 5k, and half marathon. Maybe next time I can try the urban 10-miler or the marathon (if they’ll extend the time limit…)

Ironically there are not a lot of Denver/hometown races, for such an active state. There are races that pop up in the mountains, and one in Boulder, but this is really the only one in Denver proper. It’s close to home. Maybe I should make this my annual hometown race? Unfortunately it has been falling around the times I am going through IVF treatments.

I ran both the 5K and the half marathon in the same weekend. I even met a friend during the 5K. We chatted nearly the whole time and finished the race together. Turns out he is a runDisney legend and I’ll keep running into him.

It was my privilege to be able to fund-run for Still I Run. Running provides such great mental health benefits. On bad days, I run. On great days, I run. It doesn’t fix anything but it gives me enough pause to consider my next step. Forward is a pace, in running and in life. I live with bipolar disorder, but it doesn’t have to consume my life. It can be managed with medication, therapy, and self care…which is where running comes into play.

Thanks so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey!
