Week 2+3: Dopey Challenge 2026 training starts now

I’ve been in a period of adjustment over the last few months: new job, new sleep schedule, new strength training schedule, and now layering in my first few weeks of Dopey training. Per usual I feel pretty behind, because I ended up having to skip some runs and workouts. I’m trying to run the mile I’m in, but to be honest I am pretty winded. So technically, we are 3 weeks in to the training schedule but I am just beginning.

I’ve adjusted my training schedule this season to account for a few additional tune-up races: the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon, 24 Hours of Palmer Lake, and the Philadelphia Marathon.

All of my training so far has been on the treadmill. I have a sense that my weekdays and winter will be on the treadmill, with long runs outside when possible. I may need to plan a few warm weekends away to get my longer distances.

I haven’t really ran with any regularity since early April, when things took a nosedive at work. Now that I’m in a much better place, I’m looking forward to some better days (and workouts) ahead.

Week 2/3 recap:

W2 Sat: 4 mile run: running is harder than I remember.

W3 Mon: Benchmark lower body strength training class.

W3 Tue: Day off because I was sore.

W3 Wed: 45 minute run + benchmark upper body strength class. Run felt great!

W3 Thu-Fri: Down with an endometriosis flare-up. Pain, nausea, fatigue. Rested for a few days.

W3 Sat: 45 minute run. Felt fine. Felt great for getting to the gym early with lots of time left in the day.

W3 Sun: 0.25 mile warmup walk + 5.5 mile walk/run. I finally broke out the new shoes I bought back in March. My feet are so used to my usual shoes that I rarely need to break them in. Felt okay, mostly hungry towards the end. My treadmill walk is 2.7mph, my run 3.7mph. It is not likely that the treadmills at the gym are calibrated, so I’m mostly going by effort.
